Korean skincare routine is more than just a routine, it is a lifestyle that has become a global phenomenon! The Korean skincare routine is based on Korea's cultural obsession with healthy skin, an obsession backed by decades of scientific progress in this field. Korean skincare is very popular all over the world, and it’s no wonder why. Koreans are known for their skin care routine, which reflects their radiant, glowing skin.

Instead of using products full of harsh ingredients that strip the skin’s natural barrier, Korean skin care philosophy is about working with your skin’s natural ecosystem by cleansing, hydrating, nourishing, and protecting it — allowing your skin to thrive.

Korean skin care focuses on prevention and protection rather than the use of products to undo damage.

Get ready for radiant, glowing skin and a newfound appreciation for the art of self-care!

The most important thing is that you enjoy the process of taking care of your skin and turn it into a routine! Remember, Consistency and dedication are what yield your much-desired results! Great skin isn't just a matter of DNA — daily habits, in fact, have a huge impact on what you see in the mirror.

In general, Korean beauty routines include multiple steps. However, it’s not about following a certain number of steps, but tailoring a skin care routine to your skin’s needs.

While many people begin with a 8 to 10-step routine, which may seem daunting and overwhelming but fear not! you can adjust up or down, depending on your needs or preference.

What are the steps of the Korean skin care routine?

Step 1-2: Cleansing:

Morning: water-based cleanser. Why it’s important: When you sleep, your skin accumulates sweat, oil and dead skin cells. Washing your face in the morning routine helps remove these impurities.

Evening: Double cleanse routine: Oil based cleanser followed with water-based cleanser. Double cleanse routine helps remove any impurities that can cause breakouts.

Oil-based cleansers help remove make up and other oil-based impurities such as sebum, SPF and pollution. Water-based cleansers dissolve the water-based impurities such as sweat and dirt that the oil cleanser didn’t pick up.

Step 3: Toners

Toners help remove leftover residue from your cleansers, rebalance the skin's pH level and prep your skin for the rest of your routine. The hydration brought to your skin by a toner helps other products to be absorbed more efficiently.

Step 4: Essence

Essences can have an incredible impact on your skin.  Essences are lightweight but very concentrated formula that focus on hydrating the skin and further prepping the skin for the subsequent layers. Simply pat it onto your face and neck, before progressing to the next step

Step 5: Ampoules:

Ampoules contain a higher concentration of active ingredients than serums, making them ideal for targeting specific skin concerns.  There's no need to do this step regularly - just use your ampoules for a short period of time as a booster when your skin needs extra help.

Step 6: Serum

Serums contain potent ingredients that address specific skin issues such as fine lines, dark circles, hyperpigmentation, and acne. They are more concentrated in active ingredients and typically more viscous than essences.

Step 7: Face Mask

Masks are the heart of your Korean skincare routine.

Sheet masks are like a mini facial that replenishes your skin's nutrients and moisture, giving it an extra boost. It's recommended to use face masks once or twice a week, but you can use them as much as you'd like.

Step 8: Eye Care

Eye care includes creams and eye patches that address the super sensitive skin around the eye area. These are specially formulated with extra gentle ingredients to help prevent dark circles, puffiness, fine lines and crow’s feet.

Eye creams are concentrated with beneficial ingredients and formulated to be extra gentle and non-irritating.

We recommend you to use your eye cream daily, both morning and night. For eye patches, they can be used daily or as desired throughout the week.

Step 9: Moisturizer

Moisturizers come in various forms, including creams, gels, lotions and sleeping masks. Moisturizers seal in hydration, nourish the skin, brighten and even skin tone.

Moisturizers come as a last step to help lock in all the super hydrating products used before it.

It's common to use a lighter, gel moisturizer during the day and a heavier, more emollient moisturizer at night.

Step 10: Sunscreen

You should always wear sunscreen on top of a moisturizer even if you’ll be inside most of the day. It’s the easiest way to prevent premature aging and skin damage. Look for sunscreens that contain broadband protection, meaning they have both SPF (UVB protection) and PA (UVA protection).

No one is required to do all 10 Steps. The most important thing is to find a routine that works for you, whether that be 3 steps, 5 steps, 10 steps, or somewhere in-between! Everyone's skin is different, and everyone's lifestyles are different.
